고전시가의 문화 콘텐츠 소재로의 활용 사례 분석 - 고려가요 <쌍화점>의 영화화를 중심으로 -

이 글은 고전 작품의 현대적 활용 가능성이라는 측면에서 영화 <쌍화점>을 분석한 것이다. 고전 작품에 대한 이해와 대중의 이미지 활용이라는 측면에서 영화 <쌍화점>을 살펴봄으로써 고전문학의 현대적 콘텐츠로의 변용과 그 의미에 대해 분석하고, 활용의 다양성을 모색해 보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 고려가요 <쌍화점>에 대한 문학적 해석과 영화 <쌍화점>의 창작 토대가 된 역사기록을 검토하고, 고려가요 <쌍화점>이 어떻게 영화 <쌍화점>으로 재탄생되었는지를 살펴보았다. 영화 <쌍화점>은 고려 공민왕대의 역사 기록을 바탕으로 창작된 영화로 다양한 역사 기록이 영화 속 사건들로 재구성되어 있다. 그러나 역사 기록을 토대로 한 여타 역사 영화와 달리 <쌍화점>은 정치적, 역사적 사건보다는 궁이라는 특별한 공간에서 이루어진 세 남녀의 일탈적 사랑과 욕망에 집중함으로써 역사 기록이라는 팩트보다 남녀상열지사로서의 노래의 해석과 대중적 이미지에 기대어 공유되고 있다. ‘일탈적 성관계’, ‘여성의 성적 욕망에 대한 긍정’, ‘관음’은 바로 고려가요 <쌍화점>과 영화<쌍화점>이 교차되는 지점으로, 주제, 이미지, 구조 등 다양한 측면에서 고전작품의 현대적 매체로의 확장 가능성을 시사해 주고 있다. 영화 <쌍화점>은 일탈적 성관계, 그러한 현장을 훔쳐보는 목격자, 성적 공간에 대한 상상과 소문의 확대, 성적 욕망의 확산이 이루어지는 담론의 현장에 대한 묘사라는 점에서 고려가요 <쌍화점>의 외연을 넓힌 영화이며, 고전 가요의 현대 서사물로의 활용 가능성을 시사한 작품이라 할 수 있다.
Abstract
The paper was designed to analyze the movie <The Frozen Flower: 쌍화점> in the aspects of modern utilization of Classics. The movie <The Frozen Flower> was examined in understanding classics and utilizing public images in order to analyze the transformation of classics as modern contents and its meaning and to explore the diversity of utilization. Literary interpretation of Goryeo-gayo <SSangWhaJum> and the historic record of creativity foundation of the movie <The Frozen Flower> were reviewed and how the song is adapted into the movie was studied. The movie <The Frozen Flower> was created on the basis of the historic record of King Gongmin era of Goryeo dynasty and the film reconstructed various historical events. However, instead of focusing on the political and historical events like any other historical films based on the true story of historic record, <The Frozen Flower> highlighted the intertwining story of an aberrant love triangle and their desire in a special space, such as palace. Therefore, the movie was remade in the sense of love song between male and female and shared as popular images rather than relying on the facts of historic record. ‘Deviated sexual relationships’, ‘affirmation regarding sexual desire of female’ and ‘voyeurism’ are known as the points of intersection that Goryeo-gayo <SSang -WhaJum> and the movie <The Frozen Flower> are interrelated, hence its various aspects such as themes, images, structures and etc. suggests the possibility of the classic works' extension to the modern media. By depicting deviated sexual relationships, voyeuristic witness of the scene, imagination of sexual area, expansion of rumors, and the place of discourse where the extended sexual desire is realized, the movie <The Frozen Flower> expanded denotation of Goryeo-gayo <SSang WhaJum> and it suggests the possibility of flexible utilization of classical popular song as modern narrative.
