(Korean as a second language, KSL)
Abstract
This paper reports on an investigation into the literature of second language acquisition research, conducted both domestically and abroad. This literature has delved into the relationships between learner internal and external factors, based on Cronbach and Snow’s (1977) aptitude-treatment interaction paradigm. One variable of cognitive individual differences (i.e., language aptitude and working memory) that had been most actively studied, both domestically and abroad, was selected as one of the learner internal factors, and two variables of corrective feedback and rule complexity of target language structures that had close connections with the second language teaching field, as two of the learner external factors. Various theoretical constructs associated with the above three variables were first examined. The literature, both domestic and abroad, that had studied interactions among the variables was then thoroughly and critically reviewed. The paper suggests what the implications are of the present literature review to acquisition researchers and practitioners of Korean as a second language.
