20세기 여성 문사에 대한 사회적 시선과여성의 사회 참여 방식 -『송설당집(松雪堂集)』과 『소파여사시집(小坡女士詩集)』을 중심으로-

Abstract

Choe Song-sul-dang(崔松雪堂) and Oh Hyo-won(吳孝媛) named last generation of Korean Chinese poetry composers, having lived from the end of nineteenth century to early twentieth century, have been focused as women who had done positive social activity and had their collections of poetry published. This study aims to explain the way of description of literary women and the women's social participation analyzing Songsuldangjip(松雪堂集) and Sopayosasijip(小坡女士詩集) which were published in early twentieth century. Having experiencing politically Japanese occupation period and culturally inter-generational conflict between traditional values and modern values, they chose to perform Confucian values rather than to be against the traditional values. Choe Song-sul-dang(崔松雪堂) and Oh Hyo-won(吳孝媛) perform Confucian values such as the thought of loyalty and filial piety, which were showed through their collections of poetry. They could read and write Chinese characters and were proficient at traditional writing which officially had been open to only men. According to their collections and other media at that time, they were described as the literary women positively, so we can infer that their ability in writing was advantageous for them to participate in society. These two women can be said to be one type of modern Korean women using their traditional writings and performing traditional values in strategic way. For them, the collections of poetry were the means to participate in society and establish their identity. Considering the way of description of them, although we can also find that they were accepted as exceptional women, it is meaningful for them to enter area only open to men before. Furthermore, contributing to founding schools, they played the role to make educational system and this can be the important step to gain upper hand to create new social values and reform unreasonable systems for women.
