Abstract
This paper attempted to outline book distribution's features in the case of Korea and Slovakia. This is made under the assumption that East Asia and Eastern Europe are similar to reading history's book distribution. One of the areas where features of this book distribution are well captured in the literature is Slovakia and Korea. It is identified in common that book peddler appeared and activated before emerging of circulating libraries and bookstores as a principal of book distribution. Books which were handled in circulating libraries in both Korea and Slovakia in the late of 18th century, were not such noble religious books and canons, but usually books like romance, secular literature which emerged at that time. The readers who read books of a new taste with favor were female readers, or lower classes, and they also were readers of the national language literature. It means that a reading culture changed to a lower class or female from male intellectuals with a vested interest, and to secular literature from religious books. Especially circulating library devoted attention to the upcoming novels and books of various anti-religious tendencies. In addition, it is natural that censorship and crackdown is bound to be limited, a new trend appeared to devour the novel and unexplored documents. The two countries were not the center of civilization commonly. And the conflict between readers(=nobles) who liked to read Latin(or Chinese) literature and ordinary readers who were interested in reading literary works in national language, was commonly well exposed to literary history through change of book distribution culture and development of circulating book business. It is also common that circulating library business was more developed in the relatively peripheral country than cultural center. It can be given a value in that history of book distribution has the special meaning in literary history of the countries.
