『荀子』 注釋史 一考 -『荀子』 및 순자사상 연구의 접근법을 중심으로-

Abstract

『Shunzu』 is a central text which provides basic frames for Confucian doctrines of man and political theory. If we understand Confucian political theories in 『Shunzu』, we can comprehensively understand diverse aspects of Confucian education theories including ethics and political theory. Therefore, in the process to reinterpret Confucianism in modern perspective, 『Hsun tzu』 is a very important classic book. To understand Hundred Schools' thoughts which were bases of East Asian thoughts, 『Hsun tzu』 is an important base. In China and Japan, it has been read and studied the most frequently followed by 『the Analects of Confucius』. Diverse commentaries were published for continuous reinterpretation of the text. However, there were no commentaries in Korea except those of Joseon period. 『Hsun tzu』 was not actively accepted as the Works of Mencius were considered as central in terms of Confucian Daotong theory and it was hard to understand the text. To overcome such desultory reading, results of external study as well as internal study on the text are needed. It was not exaggeration to say that reading Chinese characters is equal to reading commentaries. Hundred School Books as Chinese classics have been made by many people for such a long time. Therefore, it is impossible to exactly understand the contents without understanding a philological change that diverse documents are compiled into one book. To show development of the classics, each classic book is composed of a preface, a message and an appendix. Therefore, an important way to do an external study is to examine prefaces, messages and appendixes presented by authors that contain characteristics of each book. This study speculated on diverse approaches of studies on 『Shunzu』 by referring to 『Revision of the Junghwayojeokjipseokchongseo-Hsun tzu Gyoseok(the first volume and the last volume)』 by Wang Chon-Hae as a summation of studies on 『Hsun tzu』. It is expected that effective perspectives and methods to deal with new tasks to humanities of the 21st century will be achieved through reinterpretation of classical books.
