Abstract

The Sang(Eun) Dynasty has undergone many changes over thousands of years, from letter on bones and tortoise carapaces to the square style of Chinese handwriting. During the process, the original shape at the time of making the letter was lost, and the meaning revealed in the letter shape was often impossible to grasp. ‘立’ refers to a person standing on the ground. Most of the Chinese characters composed of ‘立’ are the same form regardless of the shape or original meaning of ‘立’. This is because during the process of changing Chinese characters, they changed in the most similar shape among previously completed Chinese characters. As a result, the original shape was lost, making it difficult to find the original shape with the currently completed Chinese characters. In this paper, we examined the origin of the letters of 龍, 音, 童, 妾, 新, 親 among the Chinese characters that took the shape of and the process of change that took the original meaning and shape of 立. Chinese characters are letters that represent meaning. Therefore, the meaning appears in the shape of the letter. However, many Chinese characters have lost their original shape as the shape of the letters has changed over the years. So it became difficult to find meaning in the shape of the letter. In this paper, we will examine the original meaning of Chinese characters composed of ‘立’ among Chinese characters with similar shapes. In addition, we looked into the process of having the shape of from letter on bones and tortoise carapaces to the square style of Chinese handwriting.
