초록
A collection of traditional fairy tales for children in Korea was compiled during the Japanese colonial period. The summary was reconstructed by Koreans as well as Japanese living in Korea and Japan and published as a Korean fairy tale book. 『Dennsetuno Chosen』, 『Sekaidouwataikei』 no.16,』 Japanese editions were published by Japanese in Japan and 『Chosendouwasyuu』was published by the Japanese Government-General of Korea in Korea. Meanwhile, 『Chosendonghwadaejip』 and 『Chosenjeonraedonghwajip』 were published by Koreans in Korea. A comparative study of the five books of "The Traditional Fairy Tale Anthology" published in Korea and Japan shows that there was no complete collection of fairy tales. The stories that are found in common in the five books are three episodes, including 「Magic Club」, 「Heungbu and Nolbu」 and 「A Fairy and a Woodman」. The character types in the folklore anthologies are based on consistent characters. The stories develop around two main characters who each represents the good and the evil, with the constant undertone of poetic justice where the good is rewarded and the evil is punished. The characters are mostly portrayed as someone from a lower class or the plebs. The second-most common characters were animals. The stories are predominantly set in a mountain village as opposed to cities or large towns. They have classic structures of either the three-part (introduction, development, conclusion) or the four-part (introduction, development, turn, and conclusion). For modern children, "The Traditional Fairy Tale Anthology" was one of the most instructive readings to enhance imagination and creativity. It was thought to be a good resource for children's education because it contained short stories easy to understand with a didactic theme. However, "The Traditional Fairy Tale Anthology" also contained violent, suggestive, and graphic contents which could be inappropriate for children. This is partly because teh censorship at that time did not function properly, but also beacause the public did not regard them as inappropriate for children. As a result, some stories with immoral and non-educational materials were also included in the anthology.
