Abstract

In this article, how did the life of prostitutes as free female entertainers in the Heian period change during the Middle Ages when Jodo-kyo became popular? The process was analyzed to analyze the real and virtual images of prostitutes.In particular, in order to clarify the image of a prostitute in the Kamakura period, where the name change and role of prostitutes are most noticeable, attention was paid to 'Shirabyeoshi' and 'geisei' Shirabyeoshi, which appeared in literature in the 12th century, is considered to be a prostitute in terms of prostitution and prostitution, but Shirabyeoshi, an entertainment of Shirabyeoshi, is still regarded as important even in the late Middle Ages.As you can see from this, it can be said that 'Shirabyeoshi' was distinguished from 'geisei' because its performing arts were recognized rather than prostitution itself. Also, in ancient times and the Middle Ages, attention was paid to 'Suisen', which is a privilege of prostitutes.In the Middle Ages, 'Suisen' was an opportunity to raise the status of a prostitute and a turning point in her life, as entertainers in the Middle Ages served at court with the privilege of Suisen' through entertainment.
