초록

In authentic daily conversations and the reciprocal translation of humble expressions between Korean and Japanese languages, this scholarly investigation delves into nuanced divergences characterizing humble linguistic traits in both languages. By systematically scrutinizing the frequency and typology of humble usage within the linguistic contexts of Korean and Japanese, this research yields the following insights: 1. Remarkably, instances where exclusively Japanese humble expressions were employed were predominant, totaling 23 occurrences. In contrast, scenarios where solely Korean humble expressions were employed amounted to 5 instances, while situations necessitating the simultaneous deployment of both Korean and Japanese humble expressions were observed 5 times. The data unequivocally underscores the conspicuous preponderance of singularly Japanese humble expressions, surpassing their Korean counterparts. 2. A meticulous comparison of the Japanese conceptual domains of self-humbling and other-humbling humble expressions, when transposed into the Korean language, reveals an intriguing pattern. Self-humbling humble expressions, with their underlying contextual connotations, manifest with heightened frequency within Japanese discourse. 3. Notably, when considering Japanese humble expressions in connection with their Korean idiomatic counterparts, an overarching trend becomes apparent. Japanese humble usage predominantly gravitates towards self-humbling expressions, effectively considering someone in the conversation themes. 4. Regarding specific lexicography, Korean humble expressions exhibit a notable propensity for the term ‘–드리다,’ regardless of categorization as self-humbling or other-humbling expressions. In contrast, the Japanese linguistic palette embraces a diverse array of self-humbling forms, encompassing constructs such as ‘–させていただく,’ ‘お–する,’ ‘–ていただく,’ ‘–て差し上げる,’ and various humble prefixes.
