초록

This paper describes the grammatical and semantic characteristics of the modern Japanese expression “toka”, particularly in the structure “V-toka V-toka”. where "toka" attaches to verbs and other predicates, through analysis of real examples. It also discusses the differences between “toka” and “tari”. “toka” serves the semantic function of presenting possible examples of events that are uncertain for the speaker, Therefore, it is more commonly used in interrogative sentences tha in declarative ones, and it tends to appear in appositional constructions. However, “tari” serves the semantic function of presenting representative examples of events that are certain for the speaker. I t is often used in declarative sentences with parallel predicates. Both “toka” and “tari” are coordinative expressions with illustrative function, but they differ in the type of examples they representative examples drawn from a whole. This paper may offer answers to common questions from teachers in the field of Japanese language education, such as how to correct learners’ misuse of expressions.
