본 연구는 서울 디지털 산업단지(구 구로공단) 주변지역의 형성과 변화에 대해 주거 공간 및 주민특성 지표를 활용하여 고찰한 것이다. 공단의 입지와 더불어 공단 주변지역에 난립한 저급 임대 주택은 열악한 주거환경으로 인해 이 지역을 낙인찍는 매개가 되었다. 저급함으로 낙인되었던 산업단지 주변지역은 60년대 후반부터 90년대 초반까지 구로공단에서 주로 일했던 여성근로자들의 삶이 이루어지던 공간이었으며, 그 이후로는 중국인 교포들이 값싸게 거주할 수 있었기 때문에 찾아 들어왔던 곳이다. 최근 구로공단이 서울 디지털 산업단지로 명칭이 바뀌고, 산업구조도 IT, 벤처, 고도기술 등 첨단산업으로 급격히 변화하고 있다. 이러한 산업단지의 변화는 주변지역의 사회적 공간에도 영향을 끼치고 있다. 주변지역 인구구성 및 주거공간의 변화는 사회적 공간의 탈바꿈으로 연결되고 있음을 엿볼 수 있다. 또한 산업단지 주변지역에서는 그 동안 존재했던 사회적·공간적 낙인에서 벗어나고자 하는 지역적 차원의 노력이 전개되고 있다.
Abstract
This study is to consider the changing and forming of the adjacent area of the Seoul Digital Complex(former Guro Industrial Estate) throughout the residential population characteristic and rental housing space. Withlocation of the complex, the low grade of residences around the complex becomes the intermediation factor thatbranded this area because of the low grade residences which spread out around the complex area. So, it was spaceof living for the unmarried female workers who worked at the Guro Industrial Estate between late 1960s to early1990. After that, Chinese-Korean workers could live in with low rental cost.Recently, Guro industrial Estate changed the name to Seoul Digital Complex, and it is changed the industrystructure rapidly to IT, venture, high-technique and other advanced technology. This kind of change affects thesocial space of the adjacent area. Also, at the surrounding of the complex, there is a development efforts to escapefrom the socially and spatial brand that existed all the while.
