Abstract

As a research to examine the effects of ballet class on the appearance satisfaction of elementary school girls, the objective of this study is to verify the effects of ballet class on the improvement of appearance satisfaction of elementary school girls, and also to recommend ballet class as an alternative to increase correct values of appearance of elementary school girls in modern society where the value of appearance has been increased. In order to achieve this objective, among elementary schoolers in Gyeonggi-do, the effective sample data of total 116 students through random sampling was used for the analysis. In the results of conducting the descriptive statistics, independent t-test, paired t-test, and one-way ANOVA for the collected data, the conclusion is like below. First, in the results of analyzing the school girls' interest in appearance before/ after ballet class, before ballet class, the interest in appearance did not show statistically significant differences between school girls participating in ballet class and school girls who did not participate in it. After ballet class, however, in case of school girls participating in ballet class, their interest in appearance was increased. Regarding the differences in interest in appearance of each grade after ballet class, upper grades showed higher interest in appearance. In the results of verifying the differences in appearance satisfaction after ballet class, the appearance satisfaction after ballet class got increased than before ballet class. Second, in the results of verifying the differences in accordance with background variables(grade, economic condition, interest in appearance) of appearance satisfaction after ballet class, the appearance satisfaction by ballet class got relatively lowered when grades were higher. In the results of verifying the differences in appearance satisfaction in accordance with economic condition after ballet class, school girls participating in ballet class showed higher appearance satisfaction when their economic condition was better. In the results of verifying the differences in appearance satisfaction and interest in appearance after ballet class, compared to before ballet lesson, after ballet lesson, both interest in appearance and appearance satisfaction were high. However, regarding the differences in appearance satisfaction in accordance with interest in appearance, when interest in appearance got higher, the appearance satisfaction got lowered.
