This study originated from the problem-consciousness that it is necessary to discuss online dance experience and education effect from a learner’s perspective and attempt on a new teaching-learning method that combines dance practice and theory in virtual space. The purpose of the study is to explore the various requirements of online dance education based on the empirical example at the National Dance Education Organization in the United States. As a result of analysing the learning contents, teaching-learning methods, and learning outcomes of the online dance course, ‘Motif Notation Literacy through the Language of Dance® Approach: Your Move, Your Choreography’, I drew out several requirements: preparing online learner manuals, establishing an weekly communication system via online, establishing an emotional relationship between instructor and learners(also between learners), instructor’s support to learners as a facilitator, developing learner-led curriculum, nationwide networking of dance communities, and finding ways to connect learners’ majors or jobs with online dance courses. The results of this study are significant in that they suggested a teaching-learning method, online dance pedagogy, and online communication system applicable to online dance education in South Korea.
