초록
Objectives: Various natural products with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties have attracted considerable interest for the prevention and treatment of human diseases, including periodontal diseases. This study aimed to assess the anti-inflammatory effect of Laminaria japonica fermented extract (LJFE) by its ability to inhibit periodontitis in a mouse model of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation. Methods: Laminaria japonica was fermented using Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Lactobacillus plantarum and its extract(LJFE) was evaluated for inhibitory activity against (LPS)induced periodontitis in mice. Results: The mechanisms of action of the anti-inflammatory and periodontitis inhibiting effects were revealed as the inhibition of inflammation-regulating proteins (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) and nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB) DNA-binding activity. Conclusions: LJFE exhibits considerable potential as a treatment against pro-inflammatory cytokines.
