IMF경제위기 직후 노동시장에 진입한직장 남성의 진로구성에 관한 내러티브 탐구

본 연구의 목적은 IMF 경제위기 직후 노동시장에 진입한 직장 남성이 어떻게 진로구성을 했는가와 진로구성의 경험이 어떤 의미인지를 파악하는 데에 있다. 이를 위해 IMF 경제위기 직후 노동시장에 진입한 세 명의 직장 남성을 대상으로 내러티브 탐구를 통해 이들의 경험을 이해하고 분석하였다. 연구 결과는 진로구성 경험을 시계열적으로 ‘진입, 전환, 통합’단계로 구분하여 기술하였다. 첫째, 진입 단계인 ‘IMF가 낯선 곳으로’에서 연구 참여자들은 IMF 경제위기로 인해 노동시장 진입에 어려움을 겪었다. 둘째, 전환 단계인 ‘도착, 새로운 출발’에서 연구 참여자들은 자신의 열정과 생산성을 발휘할 수 있는 분야로 가기 위해 지속적으로 진로 전환을 하였다. 이러한 과정 속에서 이들은 업무경험과 실천적 지식을 쌓으면서 직업 정체성을 획득했다. 셋째, 통합 단계인 ‘자신 있는 삶’에서 이들의 ‘일’은 ‘삶’으로 이해되고, ‘나’는 ‘일’로 표현되었다. 즉, IMF경제위기 직후 노동시장에 진입한 세 명의 직장 남성의 진로구성 경험을 요약하면, 연구 참여자들은 경기침체기에 노동시장에 진입하여 초기 진로구성에 부정적인 영향을 받았으나 학습 경험과 진로 전환이 순환적으로 영향을 주어 마침내 자신의 생산성을 발휘할 수 있는 분야로 진입하였다. 이러한 결과는 성인진로교육과 상담에서 삶의 의미와 일의 의미의 통합을 강조하는 관점에서 접근해야 함을 시사하고 있다.
Abstract
Present study aims to discover and understand how male workers build their careers and what the meaning of their experience is. To do so, narrative inquiry was performed on three participants who entered labor market right after IMF economic crisis. Narrative inquiry is one of effective qualitative research which provides more natural and deeper understanding on personal experiences. The results show that their experiences of career building can be divided into three stages which are ‘entry', ‘transition', and ‘integration.' First, entry stage is ‘IMF makes everything different.' The participants had a hard time to enter labor market because of IMF economic crisis when they graduated from their university. Second, transition stage is ‘a new start begins from where they achieve their goals.' They have made efforts day and night to work in the place where they can show their passion and productivity. Consequently, they acquired their career identity while gaining more work experiences and practical knowledge. Third, integration stage is ‘go to the confident life.' ‘Their life' can be described as ‘their work' and ‘they’ can be represented by ‘their work’. In overall, the economic depression impacted negatively on their career building but finally they were able to work in the place where they can show their capability through a number of transition processes. In the career construction process, participants move forward integration of work, life and themselves as they reflect meaning of their work and life. Lastly, restrictions on this study were discussed.
