Abstract

This article aims to examine the aspect of Lee Deok-soo's embodiment of the tombstone, targeting his followers. Lee Deok-soo was a writer who was recognized for his literary competence at the time, and especially worked hard to create bijiru prose. Meanwhile, the 17th century, when he was active, was a time when the literary nature of bijiru prose emerged. Considering his literary competence and creative tendency, Lee Deok-soo's bijiru prose cannot be considered to be irrelevant to the atmosphere of the contemporary literary world. In particular, the literary nature of bijiru prose is closely related to the way characters are described. Therefore, it is believed that examining the way Lee Deok-soo embodies characters in bijiru prose can contribute to grasping Lee Deok-soo's literary competence and further examining the aspects of bijiru prose in the 17th century. To this end, we first examined Lee Deok-soo's perception of literature. He was a person who was reluctant to use colorful formulas, and in bijiru prose, he explained that he was a character by taking the of 『Sagi』 and 『Hanseo』 as examples, and later revealed that an explanation should be attached. Since then, two actual works of Lee Deok-soo have been considered. First, it could be seen that in "<호조참판송공신도비명>", the tombstone was explained with the theme of the old person, and the repetitive phrase was used to give unity to the text to emphasize that he is a character. In <좌의정이공신도비명>, the character of the tombstone was revealed at the beginning of the article, and the method of explaining this using the words of the king and what the tombstone actually said was used. In terms of content and structure, Lee Deok-soo's name follows the identity of his name. However, he made some changes to the structure of the text. Instead of the world of Myoju, a description at the beginning of the text that can well reveal the character of Myoju Lee Deok-soo thinks. This method of description emphasizes the subject of the text and secures literary character within a limited way without significantly deviating from the existing identity, showing Lee Deok-soo's literary competence.
