태권도 품새의 잊혀진 실전(實戰)의 기술에 관하여: 모토부 초키의 沖縄拳法 唐手術 組手編을 바탕으로

품새의 동작들은 태권도 기술의 정수를 담고 있다고 여겨진다. 그러나 일반적으로 품새의 동작들을실전에서 사용하기는 어렵다. 그 이유는 무엇보다도 품새를 실전에 적용하는 방법에 대한 이해가 부족하기 때문이다. 본고의 목적은 첫째, 품새 동작의 실전 적용기법이 태권도 수련 문화에서 사라지게 된이유를 규명하고, 둘째, 현재 잊혀져 있는 품새 동작의 실전 적용 기법의 원리를 탐구하는 것이다. 이를 위해서 전통 당수의 마지막 세대인 모토부 초키가 저술한 沖縄拳法 唐手術 組手編를 중심으로, 주제와 관련있는 주요 문헌들을 분석하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 품새가 실전과 멀어지게 된 계기는 전통사회가 근대 사회로 이행하는 사회적 환경의 변화 속에서, 과거 실전에서의 활용성을 중시하던 무술의목적이 수련자의 심신단련을 도모하는 방향으로 전환하며 나타난 현상으로 파악된다. 둘째, 품새 기술의 실전 적용 원리는 상대와 근접 거리에서 입식 유술기와 연계된 타격기의 형태로 구사하는 것이며, 이 원리가 준수될 때 품새 동작들은 실전적 효용성을 발휘할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.
Abstract
Moves in Poomsae incorporate the essence of Taekwondo skills. However, it is difficult to apply Poomsae moves in a real fight. It may be due to a lack of understanding about how to effectively apply Poomsae to real fighting. The purposes of this paper are as follows: First, it investigates the reason why the practical application technique of Poomsae movement disappeared from the Taekwondo training culture, and second, it explores the principles of practical application techniques of Poomsae, which are currently forgotten. For this purpose, we analyzed the related important literatures focusing on Okinawan kenpo Karate Jutsu Kumite written by Motobu Choki, the last generation of traditional Karate. According to results, the discontinued practice of Poomsae in a real fight situation can be attributed to a social environment change during a transition period from traditional to modern society, when the purpose of the martial arts shifted from its effect application in a real fight to elevating the body and mind of practitioners. Second, we investigated the application principle of Poomsae skills and found that it was practiced in a form of striking combined with standing grappling at a close distance from an opponent. Thus, we conclude that if this principle is followed, Poomsae moves can be effectively performed in a real fight.
