Abstract
This study is purposed to find out the characteristics that are typically displayed by adolescents at different ages in their dealing with the fine art. Seeking the major factor in development of qualities in the fine arts, and structuring a development model, then the characteristics of each phase were sought for. Symbolic modes of thinking has been cleared to be the major factor in development of qualities in the fine arts, and according to the qualitative conversion of symbolic modes of thinking five-phase development model has been structured; 0~2 yrs, 2~5 yrs, 5~8 yrs, 8~15 yrs, and 15+ yrs. The phase specific characteristics focused on symbolic modes of thinking in dealing with the fine arts were found as follows: phase 1(0~2 yrs) It was unable to find out any specific symbolic modes of thinking because general symbolic systems has not been developed yet. phase 2(2~5 yrs) Outline representation and the progress in use of symbols is predominant. phase 3(5~8 yrs) The third phase of art development is characterized by the use of scheme and the revelation of emphasis on realism. phase 4(8~15 yrs) Influence of culture and customs become dominant in dealing with the fine arts, and the tendency to regard realism as of great importance is continued. phase 5(15+ yrs) Adolescents who have continuously dealt with the fine arts become independent and free from culture based views at the age of 15 yrs or so.
