서비스기업의 기업규모와 기술혁신활동간의 상관관계에 대한 슘페터가설 연구: 업종이질성 중심으로

초록

기업의 기술혁신활동에 관한 연구는 그 동안 제조업을 중심으로 상당부분 축적되어 왔지만, 서비스업에 관한 연구는 아직까지 충분하지 못하다. 이에 본 연구는 2001～2010년 동안의 서비스업을 대상으로 내생성 통제에 효과적인 GMM방법을 이용하여 슘페터가설 중 하나인 기업규모가 기술혁신활동에 미치는 영향에 대해 심층적으로 살펴보았다. 분석결과 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 첫째, 세부업종에 따라 기술혁신활동이 활발한 업종과 활발하지 못한 업종이 구분되었다. 이는 서비스업 전체를 공급자 지배형으로 취급하여 서비스업에서는 기술혁신활동이 거의 없다는 Pavitt(1984)의 견해와는 다른 결과이다. 둘째, 기업규모와 기술혁신활동 간의 관계는 업종에 따라 U자형 모형이 일부 지지되기도, 지지되지않기도 하였다. 셋째, 업종에 따라서 무형자산이 많을수록, 부채규모가 적을수록, 수출비중이클수록 기술혁신활동을 더욱 촉진되는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 기업규모의 대리변수에따라 기술혁신활동 간의 관계가 민감하게 반응하여, 기업규모 변수를 어떻게 사용할지에 따라 기업규모와 기술혁신활동 간의 관계성이 변화가 있음을 확인 하였다. 본 연구는 기존의 연구들과 비교하여 두 가지 차별점을 갖는다. 첫째는 슘페터 가설과 관련된 기존 연구 대부분이 제조업을 대상으로 이루어진 것과 달리 본 연구는 기술혁신의 필요성이 높아져가고 있는 서비스업을 대상으로 했다는 점이다. 둘째, 슘페터 가설 및 서비스업의 기술혁신 요인분석 등의 기존 연구 대다수가 오슬로매뉴얼에 따른 국가별 기술혁신조사를 기반으로 횡단면 분석으로 추정한데 반해, 본 연구는 10여년 기간의 기업 재무데이터를수집하여 패널자료를 구성한 후 내생성 문제를 통제하여 추정했다는 점에서 연구의 차별성을 찾아 볼 수 있다

Abstract

In spite of the increasing importance of service sector, most previous studies on schumpeterian hypotheses originated from manufacturing firms that have the needs to invest heavily in research and development (R&D). Conversely, we investigated the relationship between technological innovation activity and size of firms using panel data. Results of the analysis, the following results were obtained. First, the details depending on the industry sector was divided into active and vigorous industry technology innovation activities did not. Second, the relationship between firm size and technological innovation activity may not be, depending on the industry, some of the U-shaped model, may be. Third, showed fewer intangible assets, more debt, larger exports which further promote the technological innovation activities in industry. Finally,the relationship is responsive depend on the firm size variable.
