虛應堂 普雨의 儒佛關係論 考察

Abstract

The monk whom will be discussed here is Hureungdang Bowoo, who lived in the middle age of Choson where rejection and suppression were furious about Buddhism. Bowoo retained life of Buddhism by the major Buddhism sects, i.e., Zen(禪) and Kyo(敎) resurrection, reenforce of monk license system and the resurrection of monk examination in support from Moonjung wanghoo. In the manuscript we saw Bowoo's Confucian Buddhist Relationship Theory. First we saw Boeoo's historical character and especially his point of view on the relationship of The Zen sect and The Kyo sect of Buddhism by his life and educational experience. Bowoo searched studies in different fields, keeping wide knowledge about different fields and was proficient in the three religions (Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism). Bowoo not only argued that virtue and religion are correspondent, but he also emphasized on virtue and religion being a perfect unity. Bowoo built a philosophy system called "Iljungnon" which emphasized on the harmony of Confucianism and Buddhism to find the meeting point of Buddhism's' suppressing power, Confucianism on historical foundation. With the logic of "Iljungnon" as a background, he emphasized on the correspondence of Confucianism and Buddhism on fundamental and practical sides. Dissolve any conflict and opposition to sublate unity and harmony of Bowoo's historical ideology which gives a great meaning even today.
