초록

The paper analyses the concept of Desecularisation occurring in the world and its likely impact on ethno-religious conflict. Desecularisation is defined as the reversal of secularist theory that forecasts the demise of religion as a factor in the affairs of nations. The paper illustrates this reversal is ongoing in most regions of the world except Western Europe. It brings together case studies and statistical analysis conducted in academia and explores the role of religion in various conflicts. Analysis conducted suggests that religion itself is not the primary reason for many conflicts but it does exacerbate and deepen those in which it is a factor. Trends for future impact are discussed along with the suggestion that only through greater inclusion and understanding of all faiths, particularly by Western policy makers, will a rise in inter-faith collisions be avoided.
