붓다의 십대 재가여성제자에 대한 불교여성주의적 분석

이 글은 경전에서 붓다께서 칭송한 십대 재가여성 제자에 대한 불교여성주의적 분석이다. 초기경전에는 붓다께서 출․재가자의 집단별로 특성에 따라 가장 뛰어난 제자를 거명하며 칭송하였는데, 재가제자는 남성과 여성각각 열 명씩 기록되어 있다. 불교사를 통해 볼 때 여성관련 내용이 많지 않은 현실에서 경전에서 제시된 십대 재가여성제자들을 분석하는 것은 붓다 재세시 재가여성의 교단 내 역할이나 신행 생활을 살펴볼 수 있을 뿐만 아니라, 오늘날 재가여성불자들의 역할모델이 될 수 있기 때문에 그 의미가 크다고 할 수 있다. 이 글은 재가여성제자와 재가남성제자들을 비교하면서 붓다는 이미 성평등을 실천했음을 살펴보았다. 그리고 불교여성주의적 관점에서 재가여성제자들을 주요 특성, 즉 상생과 공존의 여성리더 등장, 주체적인 여성관의 내면화, 성역할 고정관념의 극복, 여성주의 영성의 실천, 모성신화의 극복으로 분석했다. 그 결과 재가여성제자들은 주체적인 신행을 바탕으로 여성지도자, 법사, 포교사, 경전 암송자는 물론 교단운영에도 적극적으로 참여했음을 알 수 있었다. 오늘날 불교계는 성평등한 교단으로의 재구축이라는 시대적 과제를 안고 있는데, 이들의 삶은 여성불자들이 교단 내 성평등을 주체적으로 실현하는 데 큰 가르침을 준다고 할 수 있다.
Abstract
This article is a feminist analysis of the 10 laywomen disciples Buddha praised in the scriptures. Early scriptures and Buddha were praised the most outstanding disciples in accordance with the characteristics within bhikku, bhikkuni, layman and laywomen. Layman groups, men and women, respectively is 10 by one record. When viewed through 10 laywomen disciples is more relevant to analyze, not many women can see in the Buddhist history, the role within an order and religious life style in Buddha's lifetime. And they can also excellent role model for today's laywomen. It is the main characteristic of the Buddha sanction the ten laywomen disciples in a feminist point of view, namely the emergence of a positive feminist perspective, outstanding women leaders, breaking down of the stereotype gender roles, excellent women's spirituality, and analysis to overcome the myth of motherhood. In a conclusion, the Buddha 2,700 years ago, gender, class, and embraced the female student, regardless of sex could see through them overcome patriarchal values and achieve gender equality. The Buddha's spirit can be said to a large teaching on how to realize the rebuilding of contemporary challenges to the urgent task of gender equality in today's Buddhist denomination. That the government is lead implement gender equality policy today, the order is one of the backs of the times if it disobeyed the Buddha's teaching of gender equality, the work to undermine the Buddha's spirit. In reality, gender equality is that recently appeared in the official discourse of the church, the realization of gender equality can be described as very urgent.
