초록

본고는 불교와 농업, 음식에 관하여 현대 사회와의 관계와 문제점을 다룰 것이 다. 인도에서 태동한 불타의 가르침인 불교가 중국에서 중국 특유의 풍토에 맞게 중국선으로 완성되었다. 중국 선종에서 사찰음식이 가지는 의미는 선의 생활 속에 서의 실천과 가르침에 해당한다. 인도와 중국의 공양에 대한 큰 차이점은 인도의 걸식문화와 중국의 집단생활문화라는 점에서 시작된다. 불교 승가의 ‘의식주’ 중일상생활에 있어 음식이 가지는 의미는 매우 중요하다. 의식주 중 ‘식’은 매일의 노동을 요한다. 이는 백장의 ‘일일부작 일일불식’의 의미와 상통한다. 사찰음식에 관련된 연구는 다양한 곳에서 많이 이루어져 오고 있다. 본고는 사찰음식이 만들어 지기 전, 사람들의 한 땀의 의미를 선(禪)에서 가지는 ‘공양에 대한 노동’으로서 의미로, 선적으로 접근하여 연구하였다. 선은 ‘교외별전 불립문자’로 문자를 벗어난 세계이다. 조사들의 선문답은 언어 이외에 육체의 활동인 노동에 의해서도 이루어 지고 있음을 알 수 있다. 불타의 정법안장의 세간을 벗어난 눈인 여래지, 여래안은 중국에서 반야지, 반야행으로 노동을 통한 선사상적 완성과 생활 속에서의 실천을 가능하게 하였다. 선의 수행에서 노동의 생활적인 부분이 공양을 위한 밭에서 이루 어지는 채소의 재배로부터 시작함을 전제로 본고는 선의 수행과 노동이 하나임을 고찰하고자 하였다.

Abstract

The Dharma of Buddha was transmitted to Mahākāśyapa in India. Mahākāśyapa is the first Patriarch in the history of Buddhism. The Dharma of Buddha is transmitted by Bodhidharma from India to China. Bodhidharma transmitted the Dharma of Buddha to Huike. Huike became the first Patriarch as a Chinese in China. From this time, Seon of India changed into Chinese Seon. In this period, the food for Buddhist communities was made in temples. Huike transmitted the Dharma of Buddha to Sengcan. Sengcan is the third Patriarch in China. This Dharma of Buddha became Chinese in China. Modern society has many problems that are caused by its food. Food is one essential component of human life. Every disease in modern society has a deep connection with food. There are many studies about temple foods. But there are no studies about the labor for temple food. The essential meaning of labor in Seon School is Prajñā with the foundational idea of Buddha-Nature.
