Abstract
This paper studies the case of the Ssangyong motor’s dispute which is related to employment adjustment in 2009 using various reports on newspaper. It examines the problems of negotiation behavior that labor union and employer showed to resolve the dispute resolution and why they happened. First it shows both labor union and employer was not active for negotiation because they expect the government to play leading role and feel uncertainty for the future of the company’s survival. In addition the negotiation parties put less emphasis their relational interest than normal negotiation. Second it shows they had different frames of the dispute and negotiation making them confront with militant behavior. Third, it shows the audience’s intervention into the dispute made the negotiation slowly and militant but the restraint of the intervention of the government unlike in major public disputes made dispute parties play key role in settling them. Fourth, it explains the lessons of the dispute and suggests measures to lose social cost of disputes and expedite negotiation.
