Abstract
This study explored what is the post-merger integration (PMI) strategy fitting to the Korean management style and its corporate culture. This study posited that high failure rate of Korean M&As is due to its poor undertaking of the PMI strategy. Unlike previous studies examined from cases in American and European countries, this study assumed that the success factor of Korean PMI strategies may not be identical to the findings from those studies. Given this academic inquiries, this study pursued to explore what are the factors to enhance such poor PMI performance within the context of Korean business and management environment. Based on the relevant literature and comparison of foreign and Korean cases of PMI, this study elicited the similarities and differences of PMI success factors between foreign countries and Korean cases, then, suggested the distinguishable feature of PMI success factors in Korea. This study suggested three factors that Korean firms must build to increase PMI success, which are integration leadership, preparation of accurate planning at the early stage and learning capability.
