본 연구의 목적은 교사의 프로젝트 활동에 대한 인식은 어떠하며, 교사교육을 거치면서 프로젝트 활동에 대한 인식과 행동이 어떻게 변화하는가를 밝히는 것이다. 이를 위해 대구에 소재한 S어린이집의 만 3, 4세 학급 담당교사 2명이 연구에 참여하였다. 연구기간은 2006년 3월 10일~2007년 1월 10일이며 이 기간 동안 교사가 쓴 저널을 분석하였다. 분석결과 교사들은 주제선정 시 유아들의 흥미를 제대로 파악하기 어려울 때, 유아들이 주제와 상관없는 말을 할 때, 교사의 의도대로 유아가 따라오지 않는다고 느낄 때 등등 프로젝트 활동에 대하여 어려운 활동으로 인식하고 있었다. 그러나 교사교육 이후에는 교사의 반성적인 사고의 중요성, 관찰을 통한 유아 흥미의 파악과 유아 능력의 발견, 제한된 환경에서 벗어난 자료의 무한한 가능성, 지식탐색 후 실제생활에의 적용가능성 들을 새롭게 인식하면서 프로젝트 활동에 대한 자신감과 함께 행동의 변화가 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 현장교사들이 프로젝트 활동을 실행할 때 당면하는 어려운 점들을 이해하는데 도움을 제공할 것이며, 나아가 프로젝트와 관련된 교사교육을 실시하려는 교육자들과 교사들에게도 실천적인 지식을 제공할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This study was to explore the meaning of project activity while two teachers implemented the project approach in a child-care classroom. Research methodologies used autobiographical methods based on Heidegger's hermeneutic Phenomenology. Data were collected from the teachers' journal writings and informal interviews. Analyses followed by Manen's procedure, which was revised for this study. The findings revealed that the teachers had difficulty in the selection and web mapping of subject, interactions with young children, periods of activity and deficiency of activity materials. However, teachers' perceptions and behaviors on the project activity improved in their reflective thoughts, selection of subject through observation, use of materials, application to the real life and confidence after teachers' education. These results will provide teachers with an understanding of confronting difficulties in implementing the project class, and give a practical knowledge related to the project to the educators and teachers.
