이 논문은 푸코가 고대 그리스 철학에서 재발견한 파레시아(진실 말하기)라는 렌즈를 통하여 파레시아스테스로서의 요한복음의 예수를 조명해 보았다. 푸코는 파레시아를 통해서 자기 돌봄의 삶을 실현하고, 이를 통해 폭력적 권력에 길들여지지 않는 자유로운 주체로서의 다른 삶의 가능성을 제시하였다. 진실 말하기를 수행한 예수의 몸은 권력의 힘으로 십자가 위에서 처절하게 부서진다. 그리고 그 부서진 예수의 몸은 그 폭력적 파괴를 감당했던 진실의 힘, 진리의 힘으로 다른 삶을 생성한다. 요한의 예수는 새로운 몸, 부활한 몸으로 영원한 생명으로 나아간다. 요한의 예수는 우리가 진리와 하나 될 때 어떤 주체가 될 수 있는지 보여주었다.
Abstract
This paper examines Jesus in the Gospel of John as a parrēsiastēs through the lens of parrhesia (truth-telling), rediscovered by Michel Foucault in ancient Greek philosophy. Foucault suggested that through parrhesia, one can realize a life of self-care and propose the possibility of a different life as a free subject not tamed by violent power. The body of Johannine Jesus, who performed truth telling, is brutally broken on the cross by the power of authority. And the broken body of Jesus generates a different life through the power of truth that endured its violent destruction. Johannine Jesus moves towards eternal life with a new, resurrected body. Johannine Jesus showed what kind of subject we can become when we unite with the truth.
