문화는 국제시장에서 국가경쟁력 제고의 자원으로 인식되고 있고, 문화상품화가 시대적 트랜드로 자리 잡고 있다. 특히 전통문화는 문화상품화 과정에서 대외적 차별성을 제공하는 중요한 원천소스라는 점에서 주목받고 있다. 이러한 상황에 주목한 학자들은 패러다임의 변화에 따른 내부적 위기와 기회상황을 분석하 는 등 다양한 대응방안들을 논의하고 있다. 이른바 ‘문화산업론’이 전통문화 관련 학계의 관심을 끌게 된 것 도 이러한 상황을 잘 대변하고 있는 하나의 예라고 할 수 있다. 문화상품화의 열풍을 비판적으로 성찰하던지, 기회상황으로 분석하던지 간에, 문화를 산업화의 대상으 로 인식하는 것은 이미 학교나 학계에서도 그 변화를 수용하고 있는 일련의 중요한 사회적 현상임이 분명하 다. 예를 들면, 상당수의 대학교에 이미 ‘문화콘텐츠학과’ 혹은 이와 관련된 다종다양한 대학원 협동과정 등 이 만들어져 있다. 현 상황에서 필자가 주목하고자 하는 것은, 문화콘텐츠화 사업으로 평가되는 것들 중에서 많은 부분이 전통문화분야와 관련을 맺고 있다는 사실이다. 문화상품화라는 이름 아래 진행되는 문화산업화 전략의 측 면에서도 전통문화의 활용 그리고 그와 관련된 제도나 정책의 방향성을 고찰하는 것은 매우 중요한 의미를 갖는다. 본고는 이와 같은 전제 아래, 문화산업화의 시대적 맥락 안에서 전통공예의 활용의미, 활용방식을 분석하 고 그를 보장하기 위해 적용되었던 제도적 장치 등을 검토해 보고자 한다. 그동안 전통문화와 문화콘텐츠 와의 상관관계에 대한 선행연구들은 주로 총론적 입장에서 논의되어 왔다. 따라서 본고에서는 논의의 집중 성을 제고하기 위해 연구 범위를 공예분야 인증제도로 한정하여, 국내외 사례를 비교하고 한국과 외국의 상 황, 활용시각의 보편성과 차별성에 대해 논의할 것이다.
Abstract
The scholars defining the present as the period of cultural industrialization have focused on the historical changes of paradigm. They have taken notice that culture is the resource to optimize the national competitiveness, and that the cozercialization of the cultural contents becomes the latest trend. With the development of digital technology, the so-called ‘cultural industry theory’ has gained the historical vale, which is the representative example of the current situation. Whatever opinions we have toward this situation, most of the academic institutions have already started adopting the change. For instance, most universities have cultural contents department, or its COOP department. Most cultural contents projects deal with traditional culture. Accordingly, in terms of the ongoing cultural industrialization, the transmission and application of intangible cultural heritage, and its related systems or policies should be considered in depth. There are a variety of cultural contents projects related directly or indirectly to the Korean traditional culture including the cultural archetype project by the Korean government. In addition, different types of discourse are made by private sections, academia or semi-governmental sections. In today’s culture war, this discourse should be dealt with aggressively. This thesis examines the status and application of the Korean traditional crafts, its utilization method, systematic tools, and policy orientation. The existing studies have mainly dealt with intangible cultural heritage and cultural contents only in details. Therefore, this thesis deals with the different situations of Korea and other countries, and the universality and differentiation of the viewpoints about the application of traditional craft by comparing the case studies of authentication system in craft.
