초록

The polishing process of automotive exterior panel press dies is usually performed manually. Since the polishing process is a crucial factor in determining the final product quality, its efficiency and consistency are of great importance. However, factors such as the decline in skilled experts, rising labor costs, and inconsistencies in surface quality have led to the need for automation in polishing processes. Robotic polishing has emerged as an alternative, offering consistent quality and high productivity, with extensive research being conducted in this area. In this paper, research is conducted on the design of an end-effector and the optimization of the polishing process to automate the polishing of automotive exterior panel press dies. The effects of tool rotation speed (RPM) and feed rate on surface quality were analyzed. Experimental results indicate that RPM has the most significant impact on surface roughness, contributing 77.24%, while the feed rate contributes 19.5%. Additionally, roughing and finishing processes were conducted using two different polishing tools, and optimal process conditions were predicted and validated. The proposed end-effector is expected to improve process consistency and productivity compared to conventional manual polishing, contributing to the advancement of robotic automation in polishing applications.
