초록

Background: Owing to the rapidly aging population in Korea, universities must educate health professionals to provide specialized senior care services to the elderly and foster positive attitudes toward caring for the elderly. In the digital era, effective educational strategies are necessary to improve senior care as a core competency in interprofessional education between health professions within the university curriculum. Methods: This study used a one-group pretest–posttest design to identify the effect of interprofessional senior care simulation education for health professions with audiovisual materials on empathy and attitudes toward caring for the elderly. Thirty-three undergraduate health profession students (23 nursing students and 10 dental hygiene students) participated in this study. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired t-tests. Results: The results showed a statistically significant increase in empathy (t=-3.93, p<.001) and attitudes toward caring for the elderly (t=-3.55, p=.001) after participating in the education program. Conclusions: The findings of this study provide a basis for effective educational strategies to improve empathy and attitudes toward caring for elderly undergraduate health profession students within the university curriculum.
