초록
Cementation is widely used to immobilize radionuclides in low- and intermediate-level radioactivewaste. Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), a common decontamination agent in nuclear power plants andfacilities using radioactive isotopes, may be introduced into cement waste forms containing radionuclides. Thisstudy explored how EDTA in radioactive waste impacts the leaching behaviors of Co and Cs immobilized within thecement matrix. The leaching characteristics of Cs, Co, and EDTA from cement waste form were investigated basedon ANS 16.1 standards. Co leaching increased due to the formation of highly mobile Co–EDTA complexes, while Csleaching was hindered by competition with other metal–EDTA complexes. In case of Co, samples with 8 wt% EDTAexhibited a cumulative leaching rate (CLR) 20 times higher than those without EDTA. However, the CLR of Cs wasreduced to 1/10 compared to samples without EDTA. However, the CLR of Cs was reduced to 1/10 compared tosamples without EDTA. Although EDTA showed limited enhancement of Cs immobilization efficiency, it had a clearnegative impact on Co immobilization efficiency, irrespective of EDTA concentration.
