초록

본 연구의 목적은 공공실버주택 거주노인의 삶의 만족과 우울 수준에 영향을 미치는 요인들과 경로를 탐색하는 데 있다. Pearlin 등(1981)의 스트레스 과정 모델과 지각된 스트레스의 매개효과를 제시한 선행연구들을 토대로 공공실버주택 거주노인의 빈곤수준을 통제한 후 이들이 인식하는 사회적 지지의 영향력이 주관적 경제수준 인식을 통해 삶의 만족과 우울에 영향을 미치는지 분석하였다. 설문조사에 참여한 121명 거주노인의 자료가 분석대상이다. Mplus 프로그램을 활용하여 경로분석을 수행한 결과는 다음과 같다. 공공주택 거주노인의 유사한 빈곤수준에도 불구하고 지각된 경제수준은 상당한 편차를 보였다. 이러한 변량은 통제변인을 통제한 후에도 사회적 지지에 의해 유의미하게 설명되었다. 거주노인의 사회적 지지가 지각된 경제수준에 유의미한 영향을 주며, 지각된 경제수준은 결과적으로 삶의 만족도 및 우울 수준을 유의미하게 예측하는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 절대적 소득수준이 낮은 취약계층 노인에게 유의한 사회적 지지가 제공되어 긍정적으로 인식되면, 스스로 평가하는 주관적 경제수준이 향상되고, 결과적으로 노인의 삶의 만족도 향상과 우울 수준의 감소를 도모할 수 있음을 시사한다. 본 연구결과를 토대로 공공실버주택 거주노인의 삶의 질 향상을 위하여 고려해야 할 실천적, 정책적 제언을 논의하였다.

Abstract

Based on the stress process theory by Pearlin et al.(1981) and previous research, we investigated the path model in which perceived social support among older adults was hypothesized to impact their life satisfaction and depression through perceived economic status. Gender, age, the highest level of education, the type of public assistance, perceived physical health, and housing satisfaction were included as control variables. The analysis sample consisted of 121 respondents who lived in public senior housing. Path analyses using Mplus program indicated that the perceived economic status among elderly residents living in poverty was significantly predicted by social support after accounting for the control variables. Further, the results revealed that social support affected a higher level of perceived economic status, which predicted increased life satisfaction as well as decreased risk for depression. Findings underscored the importance of social support for the low-income elderly living in public senior housing to enhance their life satisfaction while reducing risk of depression through elevating perceived economic status. Implications to improve quality of life among public senior housing residents are discussed.
