여성 시각장애인 안전위협에 관한 질적 연구 -생활안전과 이동권을 중심으로-

본 연구는 그동안 장애인 복지에서 주목받지 못한 여성 시각장애인의 생활 안전 위협과 이동 불편성의 경험과 인식을 탐색적으로 살펴보기 위하여 수행되었다. 이를 위해 중증 여성 시각장애인 10명을 심층 인터뷰 하였고, 주제분석방법(Thematicanalysis)을 통해 3개의 핵심 주제를 도출 하였다. 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 여성 시각장애인들에게 안전은 삶에서 배제된 경험으로 인식되어 항상 신체적, 정신적 불안에 속박 되는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 여성 시각장애인들은 장애에서 비롯된 안전 위협을 극복하고 수용하기 위해 다양한 방안들을 구축하였지만, 다시 여성과 장애라는 구속에 갇히는 이중적인경험을 하였다. 셋째, 그들은 여성 시각장애라는 낙인을 다양한 방식으로 주체화 하여 낙인의 시선을 내면화 하고, 이를 여성 시각장애인의 안전권을 높이는 요인으로 작동시키는 것으로 나타났다. 이 세 가지 분석 결과는 “안전위협의 속박”, “안전불안과 극복의 경계”, “시각장애 낙인의 주체화” 핵심 주제로 구분하였다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 여성 시각장애인의 안전권이 사회적 차별에 기인하고 있다는 점을 논하였다. 특히 여성 시각장애인의 안전권에 대한 사회적 인식 개선 교육, 장애인 여성의 경험에 기반한 스마트 어플리케이션 보급, 장애 여성의 삶의 질을 보장할 수 있는 다양한 프로그램의 개발을 제안하였다.
Abstract
This study aims to explore the daily life safety threats and inconveniences in mobility experienced by severely visually impaired females. In order to collect qualitative data, 2 to 3-hour-long in-depth interviews were conducted with 10 severely visually impaired women. The results are as follow. The life of these females contain considerable lack of safety due to which they experience a great deal of anxiety. In the past, they have put forth various solutions to overcome and deal with the dreadful threats life caused by their disability, but have been restricted and discriminated against as disabled women. In the meantime, they went through the process of subjectivation in various ways to brand themselves as visually impaired women. These results were categorized as three thematic subjects, including, “Being restricted by safety threats”, “Boundary between insecurity and overcoming”, and “Subjectivation of the stigma of being visually impaired females.” Based on these results, we also discovered that blind women’s safety rights had been attributable to social discrimination. Furthermore, an education on the improvement of social recognition for blind females’ safety rights and developing technological devices to ensure their quality of life are needed.
