초록

Foreign Aid has gained immense importance in international arena over decades. The nexus of foreign aid and economic growth has been a subject of controversies for last many decades. Pakistan has been receiving foreign assistance from different multilateral and bilateral sources since its establishment in 1947. This study explored the notion, origin and forms of foreign aid, its different components, aid assessment, and relationship between foreign aid and economic growth based on extensive literature review and qualitative analysis using Pakistan’s various economic reports. Most research studies argued absence of any relationship between foreign aid and economic growth in Pakistan. This outcome may be due to aid utilization in recurrent, non productive areas and debt servicing rather than for development and infrastructure projects. It is suggested that Pakistan should rely on its internal resources to bridge the saving-investment, foreign exchange and fiscal gaps and minimize its dependence on foreign aid by achieving self reliance.
