초록

This study explores international and domestic local-regional development initiatives that focus on local development in rural Kyrgyzstan. For this purpose, three case studies are selected: Korea International Cooperation Agency funded "My Village," European Bank for Reconstruction and Development "drinking water" project, and "Exemplary Bel Ayil Ökmötü (local self-government) initiative. The author outlines the concepts of local economic development (LED) and the characteristics of the chosen field studies. This research aims to compare the local development schemes of the selected field research. Therefore, this study has designed a semi-structured questionnaire survey for international case studies to get quantitative and qualitative data. In-depth interviews are conducted for domestic field research. The findings show that foreign initiatives to develop the local area are achieved through central and local government agencies. In contrast, the domestic study is undertaken by the business sector (businessperson). LED is still an emerging topic in Kyrgyzstan. However, the central pillars, like collaboration and the existence of local critical actors, are seen in all our selected case studies. Indeed, in each case, cooperation and vital local stakeholders differ but are present.
