Today, young women want to have a soft and white face and body skin in asia. So that, the aim of this study is to find out the improvement effect of hyperpigmentation on dorsal upper body by measurement of melanin and erythema content, and observation of hyperpigmentation before and after aromatherapy. 4 Twenties age group of korean women were selected and agreed with aromatherapy on cervical, thoracic and lumbar region in 6 weeks by using of carrier oils (jojoba, grape seed) and essential oils (rosemary, cypress, geranium, lemon). And questionaire was made about satisfy after massage. The analysis of data was used descriptive statistics by SPSS 12.0 program. The decrease of melanin and erythema content was appeared on cervical, thoracic and lumbar region of young women after 3 and 6 weeks massage with carrier oils and essential oils. And the effect of hyperpigmentation is better in essential oils treated women than that of carrier oils treated women. The massaged dorsal upper skin was observed the improvement effect of skin colors such as white and bright, and the effect of improvement showed a little better in 6 weeks after essential oils massage. Questionaire after 6 weeks aroma therapy showed good and very good in physical & psychological variation, efficacy of health & beauty. In conclusion, aromatherapy on dorsal upper skin may be very effective on hyperpigmented skin and may be useful massage method for hyperpigmentation.
