Abstract
Intense pulsed light (IPL) system, a non-laser light source, have been used for one of the most common modalities to treat people with unwanted hair. IPL light was used with filtered light to selectively target the melanin granule in hair shaft and hair bulb by selective photothermolysis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the ultrastructural changes of upper limb short hair following IPL hair removal. Eight healthy women with skin type III were treated for unwanted hair in the skin of upper limb four times at 1 week interval using IPL. There was a completely significant hair reduction with no side effects and minimal confliction. In a scanning electron micrography, hair removal was observed to be deeply swollen and broken up after one treatment to hair shaft. There were many various sized holes in the cortex. In this study, all women underwent four IPL treatments achieved significant hair reduction in upper limb site with clearly. In conclusion, the IPL system was efficient and effective device for unwanted hair removal.
