초록

There are approximately 500,000 ethnic Koreans reside in the CIS region, primarily in now-independent states of Central Asia. Large Korean communities scatter around Volgograd of southern Russia, the Caucasus, and southern Ukraine through out the former Soviet Union. These communities can be traced back to the Koreans where their ancestor was living in the Russian Far Eastern place during the late 19th century. The Soviet policy of indianization resulted in the creation of 105 soviet Korean village in mixed-nationality community, as well as an entire Korean nationality, the Pro-soviet Korean National circle; these steered their activities entirely in the Korean language system. In 1989 the number of native Russian speakers among Koryo-saram people overtook that of native Korean speakers. However, they tried to maintain their cultural inheritance through establishing school in the deported place. Until then, it was the language of Hangul which is considered to ban the Korean language. Learning Russian was considered to be the only way from the poverty, and for tumultuous years was to survive in the midst of the Russian language which was forced in the community. Therefore, the Korean language slowly started to disappear in the Soviet society.
