초록
The integration of education and technology has now been applied in many language classrooms. It is therefore valid to consider the utility of the mobile as a tool for learning a second language. The aim of this study is to consider the effects of mobile applications (apps) on listening comprehension at a university level. For this end, the Ellen DeGeneres Show was used as the listening material along with the mobile application “MiTiYoung: English conversation with TV in USA”. In order to determine the utility of the mobile, two groups were set up: the experiment group who focused on listening activities using MiTiYoung and the control group who carried out the traditional listening procedure. Two tests were performed and an open- ended questionnaire was administered to determine the level of improvement in the students’ listening comprehension. The results of the two tests demonstrated that the use of a mobile application has a positive effect on English listening comprehension at the university level. The results of the open-ended questionnaire revealed that mobile apps play an important role in increasing the levels of interest and motivation for listening tasks. The satisfaction level for talk shows as listening material was very high, leading to more autonomy for students in their own learning. It is therefore inferred that there is great potential for developing M-learning for the classroom and for effectively using the mobile app for listening practice.
Abstract
