초록
This paper delves into syntactic and semantic properties of scrambling in comparison with wh-movement. It has been claimed that wh-movement is motivated by feature-checking under Last Resort within minimalist syntax, which scrambling does not necessarily comply with. In this paper, it is assumed that wh-movement is induced by marked merge, whereas scrambling is done by unmarked one. It is also argued that semantic of wh-movement and discourse effects of scrambling is determined not by certain criterial position but by merge itself, considering every merge induce new interpretive effects, Consequently, this paper tries to provide a unified account of these two in terms of merging (un)markedness by suggesting wh-movement as marked merge and scrambling as unmarked one.
