초록
This paper looks into the so-called bare-NP adverbs that are thought to allegedly challenge the traditionally accepted link between category and distribution. By sharing the core insight of the hidden category analysis (Bresnan & Grimshaw, 1978; Emonds, 1987), it proposes a morphosyntactic analysis by which bare-NP adverbs are argued to be PP at syntax and the head N merges with P via Morphological Merger at PF and become a morphologically complex word [P(∅)-N]. The morphosyntactic analysis does not face some conceptual problems raised for previous analyses proposed in the field. It also explains empirical data that remain mysterious in previous works.
