초록

This study focuses on how a main character, Hester La Negrita becomes the Subject from the Other in In the Blood written by Suzan-Lori Parks. This play is the story of a black woman stained with pain, Hester, who was branded a Slut by the ruling society. The reason is that she doesn't get married and raises her five children alone. Many people who have a relationship with Hester: Reverend D, Doctor, Amiga Gringa, Welfare and Chilli are hypocrites who use Hester's difficult economic situation to fulfill their needs. Reverend D and Chilli not only condescend to Hester, who is raising her children hard, but also sexually exploit her. The Doctor is a person who carries out the dominant discourse, who removes her spay after sexually exploiting Hester. While ostensibly pretending to help Hester, Amiga Gringa and Welfare actually try to make money by using her sexually as well as economically. In spite of this oppression, Hester makes a variety of attempts to become the Subject from the Other branded by the ruling culture. Her attempts are to defend with clubs, to embody fairy tales, to aspire to learn, and to talk back.
