택지개발에 의해 은퇴한 고령 농업인의 외상 후 성장에 관한 단기종단연구 : 성차를 중심으로

본 연구에서는 택지개발에 의하여 비자발적 은퇴를 경험한 고령 농업인을 대상으로 시간 경과에 따른 외상 후 성장의 수준 및 그 변화를 파악하였고, Tedeschi & Calhoun 모델을 적용하여 은퇴한 고령 농업인의 외상 후 성장에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석하였다. 이를 위하여 택지개발 수요가 가장 많은 경기도 지역에서 농업에 종사하며 생활하였으나, 택지개발에 의해 주거와 농지가 수용되어 비자발적으로 은퇴한 60세 이상의 178명 농업인을 조사하였다. 이 과정에서 외상 후 성장의 속성을 반영하여 성별에 따라 비교분석함으로써 성장의 의미와 현상을 엄밀하게 규명하고자 하였다. 그리고 본 연구는 종단적 연구방법으로써 진행되는 1차 연구에 이어 질적 연구방법으로써 2차 연구를 순차적으로 수행하는 통합적 연구방법(mixed methods research)을 적용하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 택지개발에 의하여 은퇴한 고령 농업인의 외상 후 성장에 대한 시간 경과와 성별의 상호작용 효과는 유의미하였다. 둘째, 여성 농업인은 시간이 경과하면서 통계학적으로 유의미하지 않더라도 외상 후 성장이 계속 향상되었으나, 남성 농업인은 시간이 경과하면서 외상 후 성장이 계속 하락하였다. 여성 농업인은 Time 1∼Time 4에 이르는 동안 남성 농업인보다 모든 시점에서 외상 후 성장의 수준이 높은 것으로 나타났지만, 모든 집단에서 그 기간 내 외상 후 성장의 수준이 보통수준보다 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 고령 농업인은 성별에 따라 외상 후 성장에 영향을 미치는 요인과 그 영향력이 다른 것으로 나타났다. 고령 농업인이 인식하는 비공식적 영역에서의 지지만이 남녀 농업인 집단에서 공통적으로 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 그 외의 영향 요인들은 집단별로 다른 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 심층인터뷰를 진행하여 외상 후 성장에 대한 맥락적인 정보를 탐색하였고, 그에 따라 염려 및 공감(자기노출), 사회 안전망 및 공동체 훼손(공식적 영역의 지지), 가장의 책임감 및 자녀의 성공(주거 형태와 경제적 상태) 등의 3개 주제를 도출하였다. 이와 같이 본 연구는 택지개발에 의하여 비자발적으로 영농활동을 중단하게 된 고령 농업인이 시간 경과에 따라 새로운 노년기 삶에 적응하는 과정에서 성별에 따른 차이점을 실증적으로 규명함으로써 집단별로 차별화된 접근을 통하여 영농활동 중단에 따른 외상을 극복하고, 변화된 노년기 삶을 긍정적으로 향유하는데 필요한 기초자료를 제공했다는데 점에서 연구의 의의가 있다.
Abstract
This study identified the levels of post-traumatic growth and their changes over time, focusing on the elderly farmers who experienced involuntary migration and retirement due to land development. Additionally, the study applied the Tedeschi & Calhoun model to analyze the factors influencing post-traumatic growth in retired elderly farmers. For this purpose, the study surveyed individuals aged 60 and older who were involuntarily retired due to the expropriation of their residences and farmlands as a result of land development. A comparative analysis was conducted based on the gender of the subjects, and a mixed methods research was applied, sequentially conducting quantitative and qualitative research. The main results of this study are as follows. First, post-traumatic growth in female farmers consistently improved over time. However, post-traumatic growth in male farmers showed decline over time. Second, female farmers exhibited higher levels of post-traumatic growth at all points compared to male farmers. Nonetheless, the levels of post-traumatic growth in all groups were found to be below average. Third, the factors influencing post-traumatic growth and their impact differed by gender among farmers. Fourth, in-depth interviews were conducted with the subjects to explore contextual information on post- traumatic growth, which led to the derivation of three themes. This study is significant in that it empirically identified gender differences in the process by which elderly farmers, who were forced to cease farming activities due to involuntary migration caused by land development, adapt to a new life. By doing so, it provides foundational data necessary for overcoming trauma caused by the cessation of farming activities and positively enjoying the changed life in old age.
