초록

This article attempts to study on The Great Gatsby with a comparatively new form of literary theory, New Historicism, in which history is recorded by text, and text is a window to know about the past. The novel is related to the circulation of the two dominant discourses of the 1920s: dream of success and racial nativism. The discourse of dream of success reveals the complexities and contradictions of the achievements of financial success in the 1920s. The discourse of racial nativism reveals the rising tide of anti-immigrant sentiment in the 1920s. In conclusion, Gatsby's pristine dream of America past is going back to the national myth of the white Anglo-Saxon protestant vision.
