대승불교에서 가장 널리 전해지고 신앙 되어온 아미타불의 극락정토 신앙은 정토삼부경 불리는 3종의 경전인 『관무량수경』ㆍ『아미타경』ㆍ『무량수경』을 소의로 삼고 있다. 이 가운데 『무량수경』은 정토신앙의 중심사상이 되는 아미타불의 48가지 본원을 설하며, 정토신앙의 전개에 중요한 역할을 하였다. 『무량수경』은 산스크리트어에서 번역된 7종의 역본이 현존하지만, 각각의 역본의 차이와 수행론의 방식에 따라 다양하게 해석되었다. 본고에서는 특히 정토 신앙자들에게 중요시 되는 18ㆍ19ㆍ20대원에 대한 산스크리트, 한문, 티베트어 역본을 비교 및 대조하고 이를 통해 각기 달리 전개된 정토신앙을 살펴보고자 한다.
Abstract
The faith of Amitabha Buddha's Sukhavatī Pure land, which has been widely handed down and believed in Mahayana Buddhism, is based on three kinds of scriptures called the Three volume of scriptures for Pure land(淨土三部經) : Amitāyur-dhyāna-sūtra, Smaller Sukhavatīvyūha-sutra, and Large Sukhavatīvyūa-sutra. Among them, Large Sukhavatīvyūha Sutra established 48 great vows of Amitabha Buddha, which is the central idea of the Pure land faith, and played an important role in the development of the Pure land faith. Although there are seven translations translated from Sanskrit, Large Sukhavatīvyūha-sutra has been interpreted in various ways depending on the differences in each translation and the method of performance theory. In this paper, we would like to compare and contrast Sanskrit, Chinese, and Tibetan translations of the 18th, 19th, and 20th vows, which are especially important to the Pure land believers, and examine the Pure land faiths that have developed differently.
