불교 관법에 대한 심리학적 이해: 정신통합의 탈동일시와 대행선의 주인공관법의 비교분석

이 연구는 불교 수행법의 특징인 관찰 중심의 수행에 대한 심리학적 고찰을 통하여 불교 관법에 관한 심리학적 이해를 증진하고, 그것의 심리학적 활용을 도모하기 위해 정신통합의 탈동일시 이론과 대행선의 관법을 비교한 것이다. 대행선사(1927-2012)의 수행법을 심리학적 관점에서 살펴보면 철저한 경험에 기초한 방법론을 따르며 개인과 사회 차원에서 유익한 성장과 변화를 촉진하는 동기를 부여하고 올바른 인식의 발달을 촉진한다. 또한 역사적으로 대행선사는 스님들과 재가자들의 삶의 문제에 대해 상담을 통해 합리적인 해결책을 제시하였다. 이러한 맥락에서 대행선의 사고와 실천 방법은 심리학과 상담 분야의 중요한 연구 주제가 될 수 있다. 대행선의 사상과 실천에 대한 불교적, 종교적 연구는 풍부하지만 이에 대한 심리학적 연구는 매우 드물다. 그러나 대행선은 심리적 치유방법과 치유원리를 제시하며, 성격론으로서의 주인공에 대한 이론적 체계를 갖고 있다. 대행선의 주인공관법은 인간의 정신적, 종교적 측면을 심리학과 통합하는 자아초월 심리학과 비교ㆍ분석하는 것이 가장 적절하다. 자아초월 심리학 이론 중 특히 자아를 초월한 상태, 의식의 변화, 정신수행 등 영적 발달 과정을 자세하고 명쾌하게 설명하고 있는 로베르토 아사지올리(Roberto Assagioli, 1888-1974)의 정신통합론은 대행선의 이론과 밀접한 유사성을 갖고 있다. 주인공관법과 아사지올리의 탈동일시의 비교는 앞으로 대행선의 실천법을 과학적, 실증심리학의 방법론으로 탐구하고 분석하는 데 밑거름이 될 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This study comprehensively analyzes the process of spiritual development and integration and the practice theory of Daehaeng Seon, which is a general term for Ven. Daehaeng's thoughts and practice methods, through a focused comparison between the Juingong contemplation method and Assagioli’s disidentification techniques. This study tried to understand Ven. Daehaeng's thoughts and practice methods from a psychological framework. Looking at the teachings of Ven. Daehaeng (1927-2012) from a psychological perspective, they follow a methodology that is thoroughly based on experience, instilling motivation that promotes beneficial growth and change at the personal and social level, and fostering the development of correct cognition and correct behavior. It has a psychological system that promotes psychotherapeutic changes according to the results. Additionally, historically, Ven. Daehaeng herself suggested reasonable solutions or provided counseling regarding the problems in the lives of monks and laypeople. In this context, Ven. Daehaeng's thought and practice methods can become an important research topic in psychology and counseling. Though there have been abundant Buddhist and religious studies on Ven. Daehaeng's thought and practice, psychological studies on it are very rare. However, Ven. Daehaeng's ideology provides psychological healing methods and healing principles, and has a theoretical system on Juingong as a personality theory. For psychological analysis, it is most appropriate to analyze it within the framework of transpersonal psychology, which integrates human spiritual and religious aspects with psychology. Among the theories of transpersonal psychology, psychosynthesis of Roberto Assagioli(1888-1974), which explains in detail and clearly the spiritual development process such as the state of going beyond the ego, transformation of consciousness, and mental performance, shares close similarities with Ven. Daehaeng’s thought and practice. The Comparison between the contemplation method of Ven. Daehaeng and Assagioli’s disidentification can lay the foundation for future exploration and analysis of Ven. Daehaeng’s teachings using the methodology of scientific and empirical psychology.
