Abstract

This article is made an effort to show a clear conceptual definition and task of Korean feminist theology in particular and also Korean Theology in general. First of all, describing the development of Korean Feminist Theology, which began to be discussed before and after the establishment of Korean Association of Women Theologians (KAWT). I have shown the historical context of Korean feminist theologians, their theological trends and contents, since the establishment of KAWT. The particularity and university of Korean feminist theology, universality in a certain limited sense, is shown in their critical acceptance of especially American feminist theological assertions, certain contents and trends, along the line of the second wave of western feminism. The Particularity of Korean feminist theology consists in the sense of theory and practice, related to Korean historical context, and its universal aspect related to our global problems and efforts toward their solutions. Korean feminist theology shares a certain aspects of the third wave of western feminism, which has accepted postmodernism in our days. As a matter fact, I have tackled postmodernism in a sense positively and yet much critically. In this article, I have tried to bring out the particular aspect of Korean feminist theology in its practices in face of Korean people’s social and political issues, which are also related to our global world, in its practices, not being absorbed in an abstract conceptual language game for a theological self-satisfaction. In short, Korean feminist theology appreciates western feminist theology in general, positively and yet critically in terms of theory and practice, that are inseparable. I have discussed, in particular, that Korean feminist theology has engaged in Korea’s Human Rights-Democritization movement against political power regimes and in Korea’s reunification movement struggling toward the reconciliation and overcoming Korea’s tragic division between South-North. Also Korean feminist theologians have raised voices of gender equality in churches abd society. They have displayed women power toward overcoming global capitalism, which has widened the gap between the rich and poor in global capitalist world today. Thus I have tried in this article to open for theology in general and feminist theolgy a new future direction toward an egalitarian societies in our global World.
