Abstract

The human right–friendly action was commenced in correctional organization of Korea in 1990s and it was diversified for termer in full scale in 2000s, which largely influenced the characteristics of job of correctional official. Having any complaints about treatment, they may petition to Minister of Justice or patrol check official and apply for interview with director. Further, they may apply for administrative judgment or petition to National Human Rights Commission of Korea, the examples of treatment appeal system in operation. The rapidly increasing number of cases of petition, administrative judgment, administrative suit, accusation raised by termer since 2000s led to qualitative change in the job of correction officer. As officials in charge of the overall job of accommodation such as incarceration of termer & execution of punishment, health & sanitation, operation of psychological treatment program, etc in correctional institution, correction officer suffer somnipathy due to the property of their job, e.g., safety custody of termer in near distance for 24 hours as well as mental damage such as PTSD caused by suicide, death from disease, serious self-injury of termers & violence & abuse by them in correctional facility. In order to present the improvement method for PTSD of correction officer, this study examines legal system and preceding study related to PTSD and correctional organization, investigates how PTSD of correction officer is managed in correctional organization and presents the improvement method for PTSD of correction officer on the basis of the outcome. Especially, checking police organization which well manages PTSD of officials and comparing with it, this study presents the improvement method for PTSD of correction officer.
