Abstract
Ilshin Maternity Hospital was founded in 1952 by the Australian medical missionaries Helen P. Mackenzie and Catherine Mackenzie, two daughters of Australian missionary James Noble Mackenzie. In the midst of the Korean war, the two sisters attempted to found a hospital specialized in caring for women’s health. Furthermore, one of the main purposes of founding the hospital was to train qualified personnels for midwifery. The training was one-year course and it was tough enough both in learning practical skills and acquiring theoretical knowledge. As a result, the graduates of that course had pride of their training and education. It is a pity that the great contributions that the Mackenzie sisters had made was not properly appreciated. Further researches are required to clarify the contribution they made and its significance.
