무용드라마투르기 담론을 통해 본 드라마투르기의 방향성

초록

한국연극에 프로덕션 드라마투르기 개념이 본격적으로 도입된 지 20여년이 지났다. 국립극단이나 남산예술센터 등의 공공극장에서 대부분의 공연에 드라마투르그를 기용하고 있을 뿐 아니라, 안정적이고 생산적인 레퍼토리 운용에 상임드라마투르그의 중요성이 강조되고 있다. 그동안 국내 드라마투르기 작업은 주로 문예적인 전문성에 의존해왔으나, 21세기 포스트드라마적인 연극지형에서 드라마투르기는 더욱 다양하고 유연해질 필요성이 대두된다. 이에 본 연구는 최근 드라마투르기의 기용이 활발하게 이루어지고 있는 해외 현대무용계의 드라마투르기 담론들에 주목하여 유럽과 캐나다를 중심으로 무용드라마투르기의 역할 인식과 논의들을 살펴보았다. 우회적으로 한국 연극에서 드라마투르기가 나아갈 방향을 모색해본 결과, ‘문예전문가’라는 역할모델에서 벗어나야하며, 탈·복합장르화되는 현대예술에서 연극드라마투르기 교육에 ‘움직임 분석’ 등 타장르를 이해하기 위한 프로그램의 도입이 절실하고, 또 연출가나 프로젝트, 연극의 특성에 따라 맞춤화된 다양한 드라마투르기가 필요함을 알았다. 무엇보다 드라마투르그는 비판적인 인문학적 통찰력과 통합적인 미학교육을 통해 동시대적 혜안을 갖출 것이 요구된다.

Abstract

Currently, dramaturgy is considered significant in Korean theaters as it helps accomplish artistic and contemporary characteristics of theaters. For example, public theaters such as National Theater Company of Korea and Namsan Arts Center hire production dramaturgs regularly. The trend of dramaturgy in Korea is based on dramatic literature. However, in this postdramatic time, dramaturgical methodology should be diversified. This paper aims to present possible directions for dramaturgy in contemporary Korean theater by examining the mechanism and the roles of the recent dance dramaturgy in Europe and Quebec. In place of literature-based traditional dramaturgy, a more flexible dramaturgy should be developed to satisfy different demands of directors, projects, or theatrical features. Through implementing programs that train critical thinking and aesthetic sensibility for different genres, dramaturg should strive to achieve its contemporary characteristics.
